Birla Cellulose, the cellulosic fiber division of Grasim Industries Ltd., has partnered with Bhilwara Group Companies to develop graphene-enhanced viscose fibers for textile manufacturing. This joint development agreement will see Birla Cellulose working with two Bhilwara divisions. The partnership involves two Bhilwara Group divisions, TACC Limited, specializing in synthetic graphite and graphene derivatives and RSWM Limited, one of India’s largest textile manufacturers, focused on innovative yarn and fabric production.
Graphene, a single-atom-thick layer of carbon arranged in a hexagonal lattice, boasts exceptional strength, conductivity, and light weight. Textiles incorporating graphene benefit from increased durability, wear resistance, and improved thermal management.
The collaboration will see TACC Limited supplying graphene derivatives to Birla Cellulose, who will then integrate them into their viscose fiber production. RSWM Limited will subsequently utilize these graphene-enhanced viscose fibers for textile manufacturing.
Birla Cellulose stated that the collaboration aims to explore textile innovation by integrating graphene's unique properties into fabrics, ultimately enhancing durability, performance, and sustainability.
