India has approved 52 new proposals under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for textiles, marking a significant step toward strengthening domestic manufacturing and enhancing global competitiveness. These approvals, cleared under the third round of the scheme, cover a wide range of segments including manmade fibre (MMF) apparel, MMF fabrics, technical textiles, and multi-segment projects. Together, the approved applicants have committed investments totaling ₹67.08 billion, with an expected turnover of ₹211.86 billion, reflecting strong industry participation and confidence in the initiative.

The distribution of projects highlights a strategic focus on high-growth segments, with 19 proposals related to MMF fabrics, 18 in technical textiles, five in MMF apparel, and 10 spanning multiple categories. This aligns with the government’s objective of promoting large-scale production in areas where global demand is rising and where India has significant growth potential. The Ministry of Textiles has emphasized that these investments will support capacity expansion, drive innovation, and strengthen India’s position in the global textile market.

The scheme has already begun to deliver early results. During the first three quarters of FY26, companies participating in the PLI programme reported investments of ₹9.44 billion, along with a turnover of ₹44.73 billion and exports worth ₹3.63 billion. These figures indicate growing production activity and improving export performance.

Originally launched in September 2021 with a total outlay of ₹106.83 billion over five years, the textile PLI scheme is designed to encourage scale, efficiency, and technological advancement. With the latest approvals, the government aims to accelerate investment, strengthen supply chains, and boost export potential, positioning India as a key player in the global textile industry.
